Dog Breeding & Health Tests

Ok, I just ran across a guy who is looking for a bitch to add to his home and breeding business. I say business because from what I see of his website that is what he is attempting to get off the ground. His first litter was produced when both parents were just over a year old. I can find absolutely no indication of health testing on his site and so far he has not answer my e-mail enquiring about this.

According to letters he has put in the comments page of his site he was selling puppies at the International Plowing Match. I wonder if he gives any consideration to the homes the puppies are going too. I wonder if he will take these puppies back in 6-9 months when these purchases realize they had no business buying a border collie in the first place.

This guy got his first dog in 2005. He now has 4 or 5 in his home and is looking for a blue factored bitch to breed to his new blue male. Guess he is going to produce nice "rare" coloured puppies so he can sell them for more money.

I am sure this guy has the best intentions. I am sure he means no harm to the breed or the puppies or the ignorant people who purchase from him. But he is perpetuating an age old problem. I hope his puppies are healthy (for the purchasers sake). I just really wish people would do at least a little bit of research before they jump feet first into something.

And I wish that Border Collies weren't becoming so bloody popular.

Oh, but this guy must be ok because he is a lifetime member of the CBCA. But he isn't ruining the working ability of the breed. Only people who want to compete in CKC do that.

First time here

So, I see people with these blogs just getting out and putting their thoughts in cyberspace. Here is my attempt.

My name is Joy and hence the name of my blog.

I have been in this world for enough years to have some knowledge but maybe just enough to make me dangerous. I train dogs. I am raising a son with the help of my husband. I work full time in a job that I don't particularly like but that I cannot afford to quit.

I think I will use this blog to comment on current events of the day. Whether they be personal happenings or something I hear on the radio or television.

The big thing around here in the past few days (I live in Ottawa) is the abduction of twins by their birth mother from their adoptive parents who have been raising the twins for 17 months since their birth.

I can't believe that people would feel for the birth mother in this case. She decided over several months that giving up these kids would be the best thing to do. How about thinking about the kids in this situation. How would it affect them to be dragged from the only home and parents they have known to give them back to this birth mother who gave them up in the first place. And what if she changes her mind again in another 6 months when she realizes how much work and time these two children will take. Will these two children then be returned to their adoptive parents or would they end up with children's services in foster care.

Once a parent(s) signs a child away they should have no more rights to that child. We have seen kids as old as 4 years torn out of the only home they have ever had because of the legal system deciding a birth parent has more rights than the parents who have raised a child. What is this world coming too.

I will warn everyone reading my posts right now. I am definitely not a bleeding heart liberal. I support Stephen Harper and I voted for Larry O'Brien. I am not politically correct in my language so don't go looking for and euphemisms on my blog.

Stay tuned for more thought and photo's and brags of my son and my three border collies.
